Ready, Set….Sweepers Cup!.
Welcome to the 2nd Annual Sweepers Cup. 29 teams filled the roster this year with 16 women and 13 mens teams! Although there are teams that just missed out, we believe we have many of the best club teams in this event, so the curling is going to be great to watch and challenging for teams.
This event has happened because 11 curling clubs in 10 communities worked together and 16 events (11 mens and 10 womens) acted as qualifiers. It also happened because you supported these events. Many teams went into multiple events, all the wildcard teams entered more than one event. We started bonspielling again!
We ask for your patience as we develop this event. We are trying to make this event memorable and fun but also elevated. You will notice that there are a few things we ‘borrowed’ from other clubs, the benefit of attending so many events is we were impressed by the creativity of your bonspiels and your leagues.
Ultimately, we are all playing for the purse, which is $20,000. $10,000 on the men’s side and $10,000 on the women’s side. As follows
Men’s Side / Women's Side
1st prize $4000
2nd prize $2000
3rd prize $1000
4th prize $1000
5th prize $500

Sweepers Cup Rules
The 5 rock free guard zone rule is in effect. All games shall be played in accordance with the Canadian Curling Association Rules. We are not playing the ‘no tick’ rule.
In every game, you will flip to determine hammer or color of rock. If there is a tie in the game, during the round robin, you will choose a player to throw a draw to the button. With sweepers (no sweeping the opponents rocks after the tee line), then a measure. The points systems for games work as follows: 3 points for straight win, 2 points for winning the draw to the button after tie, 1 point for losing the draw to the button after tie, 0 points for a straight loss. Fill out your cards after the game and hand them in.
At the end of your first game each player on your team will throw a draw to the button with sweepers. Opponents cannot sweep past the tee line. Write the distance on your side of the score sheet at the back of your sheet. This calculation may be used to determine ranking in the after pool play.
All games are 8 ends (or less). Wins/ Losses, head-to-head and then if needed. distance of rock thrown to button, will be used to calculate placement after the round robin.
An extra end will be paid in all tied games. The scoring after the game is as follows: Win 3 points, Win after a tie 2 points, Tie but a loss 1 point and a loss is 0 points
Curl BC has supported this event by supplying Officials. There will be at least one official at every game. They are there to ensure there is fair play, so if there is a dispute, please before you move any rocks please let the official know. They will not be measuring rocks to see who is closer to the pin unless there is a dispute. We want this to be a fun event, so please keep it light out on the ice, please keep in check with language (remember there are other people out on the ice) and broom slamming and rock kicking. We know there is cash on the line and people are passionate, your idea of expressing your passion might be offensive to another player. Brooms will be checked to ensure they conform, you must show your broom prior to entering the ice. Its never a bad to bring extra brooms and conforming heads just in case. Our Pro Shop has a few things, but its end of the season so make sure you bring what you need. We are going by CurlBC rules for brooms, no plastic inserts, normal foam, and the fabric needs to be competition heads, not rec heads that are scratchier. Game times are 2 hours 15 minutes. Please keep games moving, slow play is a killer of fun. If a game is particularly slow, after the game the official might have a ‘chat’ with you.
Teams may play with three players if necessary. Spares may not be a member of any other team registered in the Sweepers Cup. If you have declared a 5th member, please keep them on hand in case of injury. The organizer might be able to find a good local curler to play if you need a player.
